Back in 2017, after a long time of hesitation, I finally took a leap of faith to dedicate my time solely to music. Shortly after beginning my career in performing and hosting music events, my doctor discovered that my throat pain was caused from an open wound on my vocal chords.
Devastated, I had to stop singing to save my voice for the year. I was out of a job and I found myself sleeping on my generous friends' couches.
After several long months of living this way, I began to feel hatred and anger towards myself for all the decisions I had made in my life that I deemed as bad ones. This was the beginning of my depression. I went on to lose 14kg, became diabetic, and lost some of my teeth.
Throughout this low point in my life, my guitar kept giving me these 3 chords. My voice couldn't give me a melody but my mind did and this secret song, having no way of leaving my body, became my therapy out of the nightmare I was living.
I was ashamed of who I had become, and despite having come a long way on my path to recovery, I was afraid to let my vulnerability show. It is thanks to the support from my peers that I realized that sharing my song and my story could help others going through difficult times. This is the most personal song I've ever written, in which I allow myself to be completely exposed and naked. I am Oscar Martinez and this is "Something Else"
